Aquarius New Moon - January 23, 2012

The Sun recently ingressed Aquarius, giving us a change in attitude and ideals. Most think of Aquarius as being a "water" sign because it is the water bearer and even has the wavy lines that look like water. But, the sign is Air. Think of Aquarius more as the ~evaporation~ of water going back up into the air. We are shifting our mental and emotional gears as quickly as we can, and this New Moon conjunction has us feeling as though this shift is vitally important.... There is a lot of information with this New Moon to share. Lunar Living has the complete report. Highlights include: Saturn and Neptune are each in the anaretic degree of 29 in Libra and Aquarius, respectively; T-Square aspect from the New Moon; out of sign opposition from Jupiter to Saturn is throwing cold water on the two Wedge aspects; and Mars will start on a long retrograde trek back through Virgo tomorrow until the middle of April. Oh! That's Right! January 24, 2012 is the Mars station to Retrograde. In the mean time, there is a lot of great retrograde information available online. Cancer Full Moon - January 9, 2012

With the Sun in Capricorn for this Full Moon, psychologically, we feel so ambitious, but our bodies and our hearts are just not there. We are feeling emotionally spent. Our brains are telling us, just charge ahead, and the rest of us will catch up. With the Wedge aspect from the Full Moon to Mars in Virgo, that might be true IF we are focusing on our health and welfare. As the Lunar Living article explains, Capricorn is the king of pushing through to get the job done. Cancer, on the other hand, is the home of the Moon, and the feeling here is that we would do a whole lot better if we just stayed in our nice warm beds or near a cozy fire and to pamper our bodies for a day or two. Of course, there are multiple aspects that are causing us to feel unsure of what to do. There's the cradle aspect with the Moon opposing the Sun, in a wedge pattern that looks a lot like a little ship, trying to navigate through these crazy waters. There is also the Mercury Out of Bounds transit, causing feelings of vulnerability and anxiety. So much to deal with that we need to take a few moments recognize that we have all the power in this one.

Gemini Lunar Eclipse - December 10, 2011

The last Full Moon of the year is a Total Lunar Eclipse that will be visible from both east and west hemispheres. The entire eclipse will be best viewed from Australia and Asia. The Lunar Living article explains that the Gemini Full Moon Eclipse is likely to cause a restless feeling, but there are still rules and roles that we need to adhere to, so be careful about taking on change simply because it feels like the right thing to do.

Venus continues to transit Out of Bounds for a few more days. Uranus ends the retrograde trek earlier in the day (today) while Mercury will end its own retrograde on the 14th. We will be dealing with these shifts of energy in addition to the Lunar Eclipse.

Sagittarius Solar Eclipse - November 25, 2011

This Solar Eclipse has an added blessing built in with the Mars, Jupiter and Pluto Grand Trine in the Earth element. This is a "hard works are rewarded" type of Trine in that we are going to be expected to expend efforts in order to receive rewards. Solar Eclipses, although frequently associated with upheaval, can also provide rewards for the types of good works that we provide. Solar Eclipses are a bit like six-month reminders to get back on track, or at the very least, work smarter to make it right. The more we resist these eclipse reminders, the harsher the reminder can be with the next eclipse. This is explained at Lunar Living. During this eclipse, Mercury and Venus cross each other's path in the Out of Bounds declination of 24.36 S. Mercury will return back to normal declinations on November 29th, however Venus will continue in the "extreme declinations" until December 14. Remembering that the planets transit in an extreme declination tends to be a period of feeling vulnerable and even a bit more anxious whenever we are subjected to situations that are uncomfortable or scary.

The Solar Eclipse is always the beginning of a new journey added on to our mundane events. While we never can be totally certain where the journey will lead, we know that we will have to travel the path to gain the necessary wisdom that the eclipse wants to share with us. One of the things we can do to add reassurance is to look back at the last solar eclipse that occurred at approximately the same degree of Sagittarius. The closest that we can come to this 2nd degree of Sagittarius eclipse would be November 23, 2003. We can try to reflect back to that period to give us some guidance as to the astrological patterns that we are likely to encounter this year. As Tim Gunn always says on show, Project Runway, "Make it work!"

Taurus Full Moon - October 10, 2011

The past few months of Moon events have been rougher than normal as a result of the Uranus to Pluto square. Thankfully, this Full Moon should not be quite as difficult with fewer harsh transits. Plus, the planets are spaced out more around the zodiac. As the Lunar Living Full Moon article points out, there may be a couple of difficult factors from the Mercury Out of Bounds transit along with the Leo Anaretic degree transit by Mars. Yet, there is balance in the chart that gives us more resources to help traverse this Full Moon.

Heads up that Mars will ingress Virgo on November 11 and will transit through Virgo until July, 2012. Venus will begin to transit Out of Bounds along with Mercury on November 16. Mars will move into a grand trine with Jupiter and Pluto on November 11 until the Solar Eclipse on November 24/25.

Scorpio New Moon - October 26, 2011

My apologies for the late posting here. This is a crazy busy time in my life. The New Moon in Scorpio will feed into a sense of intensity in everything that we do and think about today. The New Moon article is posted and ready for reading. The square between Pluto and Uranus continues to impact our decisions. The New Moon opposition with Jupiter could lead to some poor choices, particularly if we resist making change despite encountering great opportunities.

The square between Mercury, Venus and Mars is likely to create addition tension and turmoil that will take us some time to regroup and corral after the fact. Ironically, one of the better features of this New Moon chart can be found in the trine to Neptune that can help us find more meaning to our problems through our dreams.

Aries Full Moon - October 11-12, 2011

So.... did you all make it through the Cardinal T-squares of September? There will be many more of them to deal with over the next few years because of the long term square between Uranus and Pluto. I have yet to talk with anyone who didn't experience some type of emotional, psychological or physical trauma during the T-squares. The good news is that this Full Moon, although still a bit tense, will give us some sense of balance and release.The Full Moon article is posted at LunarLiving. We need to get as much rest as possible in October since November will bring us a whole different set of challenges to navigate from the Fixed T-squares to the Solar Eclipse.

For now, this Aries Full Moon has a really useful set of sextiles and trines that have the potential of assisting us in several ways. The key will be in finding how to utilize the positives while the various difficult transits could keep us on edge and distracted.

Libra New Moon - September 27, 2011

Libra New Moon

Power and Manipulation are both integral pieces of the T-square with this New Moon. Collectively, we want everything to be fair, but the few who have the power are doing everything possible to force us to remember that change will not be delivered cheaply. Holding on to some personal possessions that we have, may not be so easy, either.

There is an intriguing trapezoid with Mars to the New Moon, Jupiter and Pluto. The Lunar Living article will explain more about the interactions and the disjointed impact this aspect pattern will create for us. The connection will push for personal security and societal change, simultaneously. The question remains as to which direction this transit will take us. Women are likely to interpret the energies one way while the men are likely to have a different perspective on the influences.

The fall equinox (spring for the southern hemisphere) occurred a few days ago, so the Libra energies are stronger now and we will be expected to find some balance. Just watch out about compromising too soon during this Cardinal T-square. Perhaps the best feature of this New Moon is the Venus conjunction with Saturn in Libra. Now, this could end up putting some money in the bank account if used correctly. And thankfully, no one was conked on the head with the tumbling space junk! Plus, comet Elenin may be losing some of it's umph after a recent pass by the Sun. If it doesn't totally fizzle over the next few weeks, we might get to see it in the night skies around October 16.

To our astrological benefit, there are no planets changing direction for the next month. That adds stability in that regard.

Pisces Full Moon - September 12, 2011

The memories of the September 11 attack ten years ago has the potential to drain many United States citizens. Although considerable time has passed to allow for healing, the memories continue to haunt those who had to experience the event first hand. We remember the victims along with the heroes who risked their lives during those traumatic hours and the arduous days of post-carnage. Sorting through and honoring the memories can be extremely difficult since it takes us right back to ground zero in a heart beat. This will be a tear-filled day for many and the Pisces Full Moon [aka Corn Moon] will tip the emotional scale into overload. Read more about dealing with the energies at Lunar Living. We need to do what ever is necessary to pay homage without emotionally re-experiencing the full impact of the memories.

Beyond the Full Moon, beginning September 15, as Venus enters Libra and Pluto stations direct, there will be a series of T-squares formed from Venus, then the Sun and then Mercury to Pluto and Uranus. The series of transits will persist until October 1. This will give us time to settle into the changes that will culminate from the difficult aspects, but at the same time, it will challenge us to become forward thinkers to find the best way to utilize the energies. Thankfully, there will not be any out of bounds transits at this time, so we can stay focused on the immediate issues and not worry quite so much about safety and emotional insecurities. Individuals with a consistently positive outlook should navigate through this challenging T-square with ease. Be willing to rise each day with a desire to conquer the personal demons that will become more and more apparent as the month wears on. By the time October arrives, we will understand better what we were dealing with and how it has changed us. While we are in the middle of the energies we may not be able to clearly comprehend the "mission." Keeping a "T-square" journal can help provide focus. Individuals with birthdays between September 21 and October 4 are likely to experience the biggest impacts.

The fall equinox will occur on September 23 for the north hemisphere countries and it will be the beginning of spring for the south hemisphere countries.

Virgo New Moon - August 28/29, 2011

The Virgo New Moon certainly has a lot of great features. Plus, Mercury recently finished up a retrograde transit and Mars has ended the Out of Bounds transit. We feel like we're back in the driver's seat. The New Moon in Virgo highlights our attention to the details. If we have been lax in our performances at work, this New Moon should give us a good swift kick in the ... to get back on task and clean our environments up. Try not to become obsessive about perfection, but do take the time to find that critical piece that helps to demonstrate our best work. The New Moon is conjunct with Venus in Virgo adding a charming layer to the Virgo wit. The New Moon with Venus is trine to Jupiter in Taurus and also trine to Pluto retrograde in Capricorn. Believe me, this Virgo New Moon is nowhere near as puritanical as the three women in the photo appear to be.

Aquarius Full Moon - August 13, 2011

Looks like everyone is feeling the Out of Bounds Mars this month. Add in the Cardinal T-square pattern and we can definitely feel the emotional distress that has surfaced. Just like Howard Beale in "Network," (1976) so many people are "... as mad as hell and ... not going to take this any more!" The quote is the epitome of life imitating art imitating life. This Aquarius Full Moon is highlighting that frustration we are all feeling. Thankfully, the Universe is stepping in with some healing salve to help calm down the volatility of the emotions. There is a loose Cradle aspect that has formed from the opposition of the Mars and Pluto, adding a united front on either side of the Uranus powerpoint of the T-square. Chiron and Jupiter are working together as team players to try to tone down the frustration and add back in a sense of respect and responsibility. Like Howard Beale, Jupiter and Chiron are letting it be known that it's simply not enough to sit on the sidelines and click our tongues at the senseless behavior. The Full Moon article at Lunar Living provides some timelines and suggestions for handling the energies over the next few days while the aspects from Chiron and Jupiter wrangle with the T-square. And a quick alert; this square aspect (approx 2 deg. orb) between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn could be just a taste of what's to come in the future. There will be seven exact (0 deg. orb) square-offs between these two planets starting June 24, 2012 until March 16, 2015.

Leo New Moon - July 30, 2011

As the second New Moon of the month, the New Moon at seven degrees Leo is typically warm and generous. Although the energies from the Moon can sometimes become a bit distracting when transiting Leo, when she joins up with the Sun in Leo, she knows it's all good. The highlight is the Mystic Rectangle aspect pattern formed during this New Moon that should feel like a blessing, for the most part. Yes, there are a few difficult transits occurring as well, which will definitely lend to some touchy moments.

Add in the Mars Out of Bounds transit that started almost a week ago to remind us that our tempers could easily flare when least expected. But this New Moon should be a good day for making new friends and doing some fun stuff. It will be okay to horse around and enjoy the day. It's just a good day to feel like a kid again.

Capricorn Full Moon - July 14/15, 2011

The Capricorn Full Moon, despite a few possible foibles, has the potential of being a whole LOT less stressful than the Cancer Solar Eclipse two weeks ago! The Full Moon article is posted at http://www.lunarliving.org/ with some hightlights being the sextile aspects from Neptune and Chiron in Pisces over to Jupiter in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn. This soft triangle aspect has a lot of potential to get us moving forward, if used correctly. Also, Venus happens to be transiting over a critical degree in Cancer. It could be a make it or break it in the self-esteem department. Mercury will be turning retrograde in about two weeks. If we plan our events now, we can certainly stave off some social and contractual disasters while Mercury motions retrograde August 3 - August 26. Use that time to kick back and relax.

Cancer Solar Eclipse - July 1, 2011

This Solar Eclipse chart is brimming full of activity. As an original saros eclipse, this chart will weigh heavily on future eclipses of this series. The Sun and Moon Cancer conjunction is in a Cardinal Grand Square with Saturn (Libra), Uranus (Aries), and Pluto retrograde (Capricorn). Another term for the grand square is the grand cross. We will definitely feel the emotional weight of this chart. We will be grappling with the obstacles that seem to force us to think about our situations, environments and family matters. Staying at home may not feel so "comfy" during this New Moon.

The other strong aspect in this Solar Eclipse Chart is the Half-Hexagon, also known as a Cradle. We are likely to feel as though we are being sucked into a vortex of conflicting messages. The Cradle's positive aspects can help to soften some of the harsh impacts of the squares, but definitely won't be strong enough to eliminate destructive behaviors or maladaptive traits that could arise. Update: The live showing of the lunar eclipse over the span of about 3 hours on slooh.com was GREAT! The best camera angle was out of Cyprus. At times the camera from Dubai was clear, but gradually become blurry and almost foggy. I hope everyone got the chance to watch it. If not, I think you can find a copy of it through youtube via the google recording. Here is one link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hw_gG3pNd14 - Yes it really is approximately 4 hours long. Some key "times" that you can zone in to on the bar is 0:30 *beginning to show the shadow; 1:05 dark shadow; 1:20-1:22 red hue begins; 1:52-2:17 total; and 3:17 changing back from the red hue to white. This view on the recording was from Dubai. Another way to scan through the recording is by pressing the keys 1 through 9 to quickly flip through the eclipse, for example, once it starts playing, press the number "5" to see the total eclipse section.

Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse - June 15, 2011

Happy almost Solstice! But, before that is the Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, which should sprinkle a variety of changes into our lives. Almost like that rice cereal that talks to us, so will this Lunar Eclipse, with a "snap, crackle and pop." This eclipse will be viewable from a large sector of the Eastern Hemisphere, but also from some areas of South America.

With each eclipse, we grow. To tell you all the truth, I am stunned that Lunar Living is still going strong after almost 10 years of weaving in and out of online lunar life! Gemini Solar Eclipse - June 1, 2011

Here we are; 20 days until Summer! The Partial Solar Eclipse in Gemini this year is, despite Gemini's reputation, the beginning of a stabilizing transition. This is not merely because of the eclipse. The stability is the culmination of a variety of astrological factors. This eclipse will be sharing "prime-time" with a new solar eclipse series that is making its debut on July 1, 2011. The older saros eclipses are partial eclipses that are gradually fading out of existence while the newbies are also partial as they begin their new journey through the saros series. The Pisces New Moon is typically associated with feelings of Spring Fever. The New Moon in Pisces article at Lunar Living (http://www.lunarliving.org) is available now, online. With six planets currently in Pisces, we will discover the significance of caring for the self. The end of winter is close at hand, yet the winter weather has held on steadfastly for many areas around the world, despite the February message of an early spring from the local groundhog. Spring, seemingly, has been very slow in arriving. However, in a couple of weeks, the season of spring (fall for the southern hemisphere) will be here soon and winter will be forced to the side, at least based on time.

This winter season has been a particularly rough one with the difficult weather conditions in many areas that are not accustomed to the harsh weather patterns. For some of us, the colder than normal temps have taken their toll on our states of mind. Spring fever is looming. March is a good month for celebration to help stave off the late winter depression. Next week is Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), daylight saving time begins on March 13 and then another fun day of celebration, St. Patrick's Day on March 17. These "Spring is almost here" events can all help to break up the doldrums of the last remnants of winter as we ring in the arrival of spring.

Happy Chinese New Year - The year of the Rabbit starts today. This New Moon has the potential for healing but in ways we are not totally accustomed to. We can heal by detaching from the emotional connections so that we can see our situations from a different perspective. There's also a boost for the development of quirky new relationships. These are those types of friendships/love matches that we normally would not attract. Don't be afraid to explore these connections. The past few weeks since the Solar Eclipse have certainly provided some surprises for leaders around the world. Prayers go out to safe transitions for all who are dealing with turmoil and unrest. Jupiter ingressed to Aries on January 22. Leadership and aggressions are likely to be impacted by Jupiter's transit in Aries. Saturn's retrograde in Libra began on January 26. Business and marriage partnership could be restructured while Saturn is in the "review" state of Libra. Mercury will ingress Aquarius February 3 and Venus will ingress Capricorn on February 4.

Today was Groundhog Day and based on the various reports, the Eastern U.S. regions are less likely than the Western U.S. to have to put up with too much more winter.... or will we? I just discovered today that we've been relying on the wrong rodent "hog" for the wintery forecast. *The Romans used Hedgehogs to predict how much longer winter weather would endure. Oy! No wonder Punxsutawney Phil's predictions are only 40% accurate!

Solar Eclipse - Capricorn - January 4, 2010

The solar eclipse on January 4, 2010 brings the Sun and Moon together at one of the three Critical Degrees in Capicorn. The eclipse will be a partial one and the view of the eclipse will cover a wide range from North Africa to Russia. The maximum point of the eclipse will occur over Sweden in the morning, shortly before 9:00 a.m. UT. Because of the eclipse and the critical degree of Capricorn being spotlighted, there is the likelihood of challenges manifesting. But, the feeling of defeat is all in the mind. We are simply being challenged to come to terms with life as it currently exists. Pessimism comes from within. Instead of crawling into a cave, we need to need to resolve to make a change for the better. This solar eclipse is the perfect backdrop to making a New Year's resolution that we can stick to. Lunar Eclipse - Gemini - December 21

The Total Lunar Eclipse less than a day before the Winter Solstice will likely have a dramatic impact on everyone. Individuals born in the late degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces will notice the affects the most.

This Lunar Eclipse in Gemini is the lead-in to the Capricorn Solar Eclipse in January, giving us a heads up about issues we need to address. Yet many will feel too confused by the message to know what to do with it. As Rose Lineman explains in "Eclipse Interpretation Manual," the Solar Eclipse in Capricorn, after a Lunar Eclipse in Gemini can be difficult because of the sense of practicality the Capricorn New Moon encourages us to focus on. We tend to be emotionally frivolous when the Lunar Eclipse is in Gemini, and the Solar Eclipse in Capricorn is likely to shake us with "reality shockwaves" if we have been too silly with our decisions during the Lunar Eclipse influence. The Anaretic Degree of the Full Moon in Gemini acting as a singleton in the northern hemisphere, the T-square with Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces, along with the Moon and Mars transits Out of Bounds (OOB) are all stressful aspects during this eclipse. The Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius certainly is not helping us, either. The Sagittarius New Moon is the precursor to the Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse December 21, 2010. The New Moon should have a calming quality, for the most part. Of course, with Mars and Mercury still transiting Out of Bounds, and now the Moon will also be OOB for a few days, we could easily get caught off guard. Yet, that seems to be the nature of the Out of Bounds transits. We can minimize some of that by being prepared. Additionally, Mercury's retrograde motion starting on December 10 will likely make a fine smear of a mess on the Christmas holiday. Those individuals who do their shopping, preparation and travel arrangements early in the month, will be the least impacted. But for many, that early preparation takes all the fun and adventure out of the event. Be that as it may, this holiday season is likely to be a lot like the 2003 Christmas Mercury Retrograde. Despite the New Moon in Scorpio being known for it's intensity, we should actually have a fairly relaxed time of it this year. We can still use the deep thinking process while having some fun. Some of the concerns are with the Venus retrograde preparing to move back into Libra, Mercury preparing to transit out of bounds (extreme declination) as well as Mars also preparing to transit out of bounds for the better part of November. These "on the edge" transits can take their toll if we try to force ourselves to make everything right. Find the right perspective to balance the activities with the potential outcomes. Be honest with ourselves about our abilities and our desires. Remember the adage, "the truth will set you free." Then take it moment by moment and day by day and let the rest of life drift as it will.

New Moon in Virgo Alert - September 8, 2010

The New Moon in Virgo on September 8 while Mercury is retrograde in Virgo is giving us a healthy perspective on our environment. We certainly can find new releases on our energies with this New Moon. Where we are still faltering is under the weight of the Cardinal t-square that continues to challenge all of us. Thankfully, as the days go by, little by little, planets are moving out of the square, and releasing us with a new sense of confidence. Venus will ingress Scorpio for a mutual reception to Mars in Libra on September 8. Jupiter will "re-gress" back into Pisces on September 9. Then Mercury will station direct on the 12th and Pluto will station direct on the 14th. There's likely to be some confusion in the air, but for now, we can certainly utilize this crisp New Moon's energies for an invigorating outlook.

Full Moon in Pisces Alert - August 24, 2010

The Sun is barely in Virgo and this Full Moon event on August 24 so early in the opposing sign of Pisces, we know that there is a whole lot of sump'in going on. A lot of planetary transition at the zero declination over the equator is one reason for the tense feelings.

The Mercury Retrograde in Virgo is one more reason. The remainder of the Cardinal T-square configuration is another. The Grand Square of August 6/7 continues to reverberate its messages each time the Moon transits over the Cardinal Point. The next Cardinal Point transit by the Moon will be on August 26/27. Thankfully, we have lots of work and activities to keep us distracted. One key to navigating through this Full Moon will be staying alert. We need to focus on our own work load and clearing that up first. Keep the gossip to a minimum or it could bite us in the buttocks.

Tomorrow's New Moon in Leo stands alone in one corner while the Cardinal T-square continues to confront our idea of fun and pleasure. The August 6 Grand Cardinal Square was formed while the Moon transited into Cancer. It demonstrated the powerful pull that the Square has on our lives. We should feel somewhat relieved as the Moon joins up with the Sun; we get a little reprieve from all the seriousness. On August 12/13, the Moon moves into Libra, joining the Venus, Mars and Saturn post of the T-square. On August 19/20, the Moon joins the Pluto post in Capricorn. Although the aspects of the Cardinal Grand Cross from the Moon's interaction is mostly over, the T-square of the other planets continues. As the Moon transits over those points, we will continue to feel the reverberations of the Great Squared energies. The Moon will transit over the T-square placements on August 12, August 19 and August 27. Another, less potent Grand Cross will occur on September 3/4 with the Moon, Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter retrograde. By this time, Uranus will have moved into Pisces (although it will still be conjunct to Jupiter) and the Venus/Mars conjunction will be in the later degrees of Libra. It's a sad thing...

I do try to follow multiple astrology sites to find and acknowledge different astrological opinions, ideas and interpretations. What I find unattractive or, or should I say, disgusting, is the distance that some professional astrologers will go to be *disingenuous with their predictions. Some will backdate newly posted articles on their blogs or website, and present the new information as having been there "all along." Some will post pieces that have blatantly false information on the planetary transits in an effort to support predictions, knowing that many readers don't have the astrological knowledge or skills to see through the deception. To me, that is a sad thing....

I'm not here to "out" anyone who is utilizing these types of deceptions. I just want people to be aware that the practice of cheating is used by some professionals. While Neptune and Chiron are both retrograde in Aquarius, I feel that it is perhaps time that I share my observations with my guests. Chiron's wounding and healing process can be reviewed more thoroughly while in retrograde motion. There is a form of victimology that Chiron's transit can create. Neptune's illusions (delusions?) cannot be so easily swept under the rug when transiting retrograde. Neptune's transits can be creative and beautiful, but there's usually a nebulous cloud that envelopes everything. Uranus' retrograde in Aries will be moving back into Pisces soon, and the mutual reception between Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius will provide one last chance of cleaning up this trickery practice. Uranus' transits can have the shock and awe effect. There is usually a surprise outcome when Uranus is involved.

For my part, I truly appreciate it when people call me out on my mistakes. I want to know that I've made a typo or a miscalculation. I want to hear that I've goofed (or even if I haven't goofed... that my message was confusing.) I recognize that not all astrologers want that type of feedback. I do. I not only want to promote a better world through astrology, I want to be perceived as having the heart and ethics of wanting to be a better astrologer.

Okay, I'll get off my soap box now and get back to reading.

Mail List Updates

I dusted off the updated mailing list script that I have been sitting on for a year with the hopes that I would not need to make any changes. But, alas, it looks like I need to make the upgrade change now. I decided that the eclipsing message about change was inevitable, and, well, now's as good a time as any to put my skills and talents to work. I hit a few glitches. Turns out that I was able to also dust off my PERL scripting skills and put them to good use. Made a few minor changes to get this script to work better for me... So, with that accomplished, the newsletter subscription feature is back online. If you have NOT received some type of notification that the newsletter mailing list has been changed, and you want to continue to receive the newsletters, submit a new request (opt-in) through the website.

Lunar Living Newsletter - Eclipsed Again?

Big Sigh. Once again, the newsletter program has taken a big hit. It seems that for each and every fix I make on the program, something else comes along and wipes out the program. The majority of the issues have been occurring around the time of the eclipses. This recent Solar Eclipse landed in Lunar Living's 2nd house of security and vulnerabilities while the Lunar Eclipse landed in Lunar Living's first/7th houses of self and partnerships. Well, there are a variety of things that this could be trying to encourage me to do. I recognize that change is an important piece of the Eclipses.

I need to assess whether I can afford to change, what specifically do I need to change and how to go about making the best change. So I have my work cut out for me to research, review the various options and evaluate my resources.

In the meantime, it appears that the newsletter features are down and out. I don't know if/when I can get them operational. I apologize for any inconvenience that this might cause for you and I thank you for your patience.

Solar Eclipse

in Solar Sign: Cancer 00'
June 21, 2001

This solar eclipse occurs on the longest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere) on the summer solstice. The strength of this eclipse will be noted by its nurturing energy. Emotions and sensitivity are key traits of Cancer. This eclipse will accentuate these traits. The energies of the eclipse will be felt for an extended period time, possibly as long as three to six months, depending on whether this eclipse will be closely interacting with your natal chart.

June 21 is known as the "Day of Worldly Rapture" (1). Individuals born on this day are considered to be success-oriented, brilliant, and/or eccentric. The day of the summer solstice embodies the richness of the cosmos' bounty. The expansive nature of the day personifies the characteristics of Jupiter and all that Jupiter represents. The opportunities presented by Jupiter's placement in Gemini on this day should be felt over the next few months through improved communication. The emphasis will be placed on positive interactions with people and one's environment, as well as exploring all the new ideas that will be brought to light as a result of the eclipse.

Jupiter is currently in close contact with Mercury which generally encourages expanded communication and short distance travels. However, at the moment, Mercury is "realigning" itself with the Sun as it appears to move backwards in the sky. This optical illusion is identified as a retrograde. The retrograde of Mercury tends to stymie effective communication or undo travel plans. However, within a few days, the planet will begin to turn around and get back on track with the world. In no time at all, the ability to express ourselves in an effective manner will be at our fingertips.

Mars, the planet of energy and physical activity, as well as Chiron, the planet known as the wounded healer, are interacting with Mercury and Jupiter as they appear to traverse backwards in retrograde through Sagittarius opposite of Gemini. These two retrograde planets will contribute to a sense of frustration and sadness, especially in relationship to religious and moral ideals. These interactions may be felt as stumbling blocks to many, and will be felt most strongly by those whose solar signs are in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. It would be suggested that you take these obstacles in stride. Consider the setbacks as part and parcel of the learning process. Soon enough, the barriers will be removed and you will be that much wiser about how you should proceed.

Saturn will contribute to restriction and responsibilities as it moves forward on its trek through Gemini. Saturn will be helping to keep the interactions with others on an even keel. Saturn is typically considered to be an enforcer of the rules. As such, the rules of communication will be closely monitored and kept in check by Saturn for the next year and a half. Saturn will be balancing its restrictive tendencies with Pluto. Pluto also appears to be transiting in retrograde in Sagittarius as it opposes Saturn. Pluto is the planet of transformation, death and rejuvenation. So Pluto will be urging a transformation of ineffective views and beliefs.

Pluto also likely to create additional stir as it is forming a quincunx with Venus in Taurus. This interaction will most likely bring some women's issues to the surface. The fact that the sun is just beginning to enter Cancer, this eclipse should highlight the role of women within the family, the home and the work place.

Finally, and not to be left out, Uranus is contributing in a positive way to the key players of this solar eclipse. Uranus, in Aquarius, is forming trines with Mercury, Jupiter, Sun and Moon. Uranus is known for its sense of freedom and individuality. The interaction between Uranus and these four primary planets may stand out as a push towards truth, originality and self-expression.

With all these planets actively contributing to this solar eclipse, we would be wise to reflect on our emotional needs and be sensitive to those needs. Quiet meditation, prayer and reflection of our gentler side would be in order for this year's summer solstice. At the same time, we should celebrate the strengths and creative characteristics of Motherhood; whether the mother that we hold in our hearts is Mother Earth, Mother Theresa, or Dear Ol' Mom.

Like all online organizations, we've hit a few bumps in the road, skidded across the pavement at least once (WHA - Web Host Abandonment), and even had a few online squabbles to boot. But, over all, we've had way more fun than ever anticipated, met some wonderful people all across the globe, created fantastic friendships and thoroughly enjoyed the outcomes. There have been a few moments that we were ready to say, 'OK, we're done' but you all have encouraged us to continue on with your upbeat praise and all out kindness.

A shout out of thanks and appreciation goes out to Webhostingbuzz for hosting our website since 2005 when our prior webhost walked off with our payment and our domain name.... Jupiter Transits Aries

The Jupiter ingress into Aries today may be a whole lot of fun or a whole lot of something else. The exact conjunction of Jupiter to Uranus in Aries is on June 8 at 4:28 a.m. PDT (11:28 a.m. GMT) and our experiences are likely to be uniquely different until (and possibly after) Uranus stations retrograde in the first week of July. When the planets both retrograde, the pressures should ease up. Take a little extra precaution on the dates that the Moon transits Out of Bounds as we are considerably more sensitive and vulnerable to disasters during those dates. How to Avoid a Bad Astrological Experience

A great blogged piece of compiled resources is available on Donna Cunningham's blog at Skywriter Although the article is directed at the professional astrologer, it is also a great insightful resource for non-astrological individuals who are reaching out for astrological information. Some astrologers (and prognosticators of many types) can become so entrenched in the technique that they lose sight of the individual who is receiving the information. I remember early on when I had a chart reading by a well-known US based vedic astrologer (No, I will not name him) who told me that I was likely to lose many children to deadly circumstances because of a poorly placed Saturn in my chart. While this Might ultimately occur at some point in time, the manner in which the information was relayed was truly disconcerting, at the time. And I think we can all say that there are some professionals in a variety of fields out there who get so wrapped up into the "explanation" of the situation that the humanity of the message gets lost. There are so many situations in which a perspective gets skewed by the professional's past experience and opinion.

The client or customer should also feel as though he/she has the right to ask questions and request clarification of the information received. With the resources that Ms. Cunningham has provided in her article, I believe that the client can come out the other side of a potentially bad interpretation of their chart with a greater understanding of what to avoid and what to look for when researching an individual to interpret their chart.

Many parents don't think to take advantage of reading their child's chart at birth. This head start would give the parent a whole lot more insight on how to approach that little bundle of brand new temperament, emotion, personality and attitude. Granted, all children will become more independant from their parents as they grow, regardless. I Simply Love the Moon!

A new piece for newbies is up on the website (click on the title's link above). I don't have it fully mapped out with links on the site yet, but I'm getting there, bit by bit.

This particular piece focuses on the way the Full Moon ends up in a specific sign each month. While it's certainly not rocket science, the Full Moon transit gets folks all flumoxed as though the transits are so complex that they can't begin to figure out how to tell what sign the Full Moon will be in next. But it truly isn't all that difficult to follow once a person has a basic understanding of the zodiac signs in relation to the typical calendar month.

I'm hoping that this piece helps to take the mystery out of that process.

The Pisces in Me

I developed an urge to go "Pisces" and get some wet pets. Basically, I never really have had fish before. I remember as a kid that we had a goldfish, but I never took care of it because I was too young. My daughter had some guppies that she brought home from school, and they lived for a few years in a little "goldfish" bowl. But I never had a true understanding of what it takes to have an aquarium with beautiful fish darting around through the flora and fauna of a miniature fish tank.

A new friendly face in the crowd

Late last year, I was pretty ticked with the rudeness of some of my guests to my website. I ranted and wondered if my rant would change anything. I think it did.

After my comments were posted on the blogs, I started getting emails from all around the world. Not a lot, but enough to let me know that the rudeness of those few rogue visitors is certainly not the norm. I think I've made some new online friends. There have been people asking for permission to use my scripts and even some offering to pay me money for them! WHOA!

For example, this month, I received an very nice email from a person who helps manage a mountaineering website in Mexico. He explained his situation and what he was looking for. He wasn't vague or obscure. He was open and upfront. My kinda people! Well, Heck Yah! Not only is he using my calendar script on the website, but I even modified it to change the week set up to end with Sunday instead of start with Sunday. Club Explorador is using the Moon Phase calendar to help with planning their events. Now How Cool is That?

Granted, I may not always freely give away a script to just anyone. But in some cases, it is the right thing to do for a person who was willing to ask, before taking.

Chart Rulers or Rising Planets

A: Thank you for your question! What you don't mention is "where" you have always been reading about the differences between the Chart Ruler and Ascendant Ruler. I'm always curious where to find differences of interpretation because it does help me to better understand different ways of interpreting concepts. But, aside from that, I can tell you where to find similar definitions that I used on my site and also explain where I believe the confusions could be coming from.

Different astrologers put different meanings to astrology terms because of the various types of astrology being used in so many different languages. Also, I note that a lot of new Astrology terms are developing on the Internet. Over time, meanings change as do the terms being used. The definition I use for "Chart Ruler" on my site concurs with the definition found in "The only astrology book you'll ever need," by Woolfolk, and "The only way to learn astrology" by March & McEvers, as well as any number of other astrology books and websites across the Internet. The books I referenced are both basic and great resources for beginning astrologers. Sometimes I see "Chart Ruler" referenced as "the ruling planet of the chart." Some astrologers call the rising sign's ruling planet the "Significator." But I believe that this term comes more from the vedic. I believe that Paul Wade, "Be your own astrologer," simply calls the ruler of the ascendant as "the ruling planet." How confusing is that? But that's also an accurate way of describing it.

The term used for a planet that rules over a person's "sun sign" (or any sign) is called the **planetary ruler**, hence many astrologers logically conclude that the ruler of the rising sign of a chart must be the **chart ruler.** Yet, what is so different between the terms Ruling Planet and Planetary Ruler?

For example, (as explained by Dane Rudhyar, "The Astrology of Personality," page 496),

"The first way of singling out a planet, to make it serve as a center of significance, is to find what is called the 'ruling planet' or 'ruler of the chart.' This is usually determined by the sign of the Ascendant. The planet ruling this sign becomes the ruler of the whole chart. The rationale of this method is clear. The Ascendant represents the factor of individual self-hood, the monad, the fountainhead of the life and destiny which the chart as a whole symbolizes. Therefore the planet functionally dominating this Ascendant becomes naturally the dominant life-function of the personality. However, in the case of planets rising close to the Ascendant, or when a planet, wherever situated in the chart, 'disposes' of all or most other planets, then two or more planets may divide the honors of chart-rulership."

Mr. Rudhyar goes on to explain a second way of singling out a planet as a focal point but it is beyond the scope of our discussion here. Yet, I quickly picked up on Mr. Rudhyar's description, "planet ... of significance" sounding very much like "significator." Also, he explains that this is "usually" (as in "not always") the way to finding the chart ruler or ruler of the chart. So this does "open the door" to your interpretations.

Additionally, the term chart ruler being used as I have on my site would also be called the "ruler of the first house."

Other terms that are frequently confused and misused are Rising Planet, Ascending Planet, Scout Planet, Leading Planet and Oriental Planet. The term for the planet closest to the ascendant moving the opposite of the numbers on the houses (i.e. 2nd, 1st, 12th) is usually called the Rising Planet or the Ascending Planet. Many astrologers believe that the closeness of the planet to the Ascendant makes the planet more influential.

"Rising planet: A planet considered to be close to the ascendant. As with all else in astrology the deciding number of degrees will vary by astrologer, but within 5 degrees on either side of the Ascendant cusp being a widely accepted orb."

On the other hand, I have read a few texts which claim that the "rising planet" can only be located in the first house, rising toward the Ascendant while others state that the planet must have already risen above and past the horizon. On the Matrix site in the Astro*Index section, they very clearly describe the Rising Planet as being:

"A planet above, and within 5°, of the eastern Horizon."

Other similar terms that are confused on a regular basis are the "Oriental & Occidental" planets. These are the planets on either side of the Sun that rose before (Oriental, Leading, or Scout) or after (Occidental) the Sun rose.

However, I have seen it the other way around with Oriental being described as following and Occidental as before the Sun rose.

Yet the whole chart thing can get confusing, let alone figuring out which direction is rising, which is setting, which is above, below, in front and behind.

I hope that this helps you to understand where I'm coming from when using the term "Chart Ruler" on my site as well as giving you a solid set of resources to confirm why I use the term in the manner that I do. I'm not saying I'm right, I'm simply saying I'm not alone in using the term in the way that I do. Sometimes it does not boil down to the use of terms I'm always reading, but simply based on what I have found to be the most common term being used to describe a concept. Fact is, that the interpretations get cobbled up by so many different experts in the field that we need to just do the best we can with what we can find on the topic to try to make sense of it all.

Pluto becomes Brutus in the Business World

November 28, 2008, Pluto will effectively move into Capricorn for the long haul. Pluto will be in Capricorn for 15 years until 2024. Forgive me as I bounce around a little between the past and the future. I like to look at the past to help me navigate the present into the future.

Looking back at where we have been, Pluto transited through Sagittarius beginning in 1995 and it was quite the run. Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter) tends to function with big and expansive ideals. Religion and philosophies, higher education, diversity and culture, along with the ever well known category, Long Journeys. Long journeys in this day and age means "over the moon" with trips to Mars and beyond. Also, who could forget about diversity of perspectives that seemingly spurred on the arguments over whether Pluto is a planet, an asteroid or a mini planetoid. Religion has gone through cataclysmic redefinition; from Islamic beliefs to Catholic beliefs to Wicca beliefs to name a few religions that have felt the impacts of Pluto's transit through Sagittarius. Pluto's been busy redefining many of these areas in our lives. And these concept changes will be with us for a long time, but we are also starting to see the change that is coming our way as Pluto prepares to completely leave Sagittarius and move into Capricorn territory next month.

Pluto's 15 year transit through Capricorn could be more subtle and seemingly skim just below the surface of events. We have a whole lot to learn about authority (who really has it vs. who thinks they have it), status (again, who really has it), structure, business, industry and management. Saturn rules over Capricorn. It will be really interesting to see how the two planets play together while Pluto is in Capricorn and Saturn is in Scorpio beginning October 2012 during this mutual reception of transits. In the United States, we definitely need to be really careful about who gets elected this year, since this newly elected President will begin to set the trends that lead into 2012.

Pluto is renowned for death and rebirth. The proverbial Phoenix Rising tends to grab situations by the gonads and give a twist to the outcome that no one is expecting. The "Beginning of the End" is a fitting title for the changes that Pluto brings about. Interestingly enough, the last time Pluto transited through Sagittarius and Capricorn was in the mid-1700s. That was definitely a time of changing philosophies and long distance moves on the part of many people from European countries. New philosophies developed, new religions and a gamut of cultural conversions. Stories grew out of the "invasions" and colonization of foreign soil on distant continents. These were stories that seemed very romantic and gutsy at the time. When Pluto moved into Capricorn in 1762, a whole new picture began to emerge about "who was in control." That was a period of defining organization, structure and authorities. Of course, we all know that the 1770s was the period of the United States becoming a new "country" breaking free from England's attempts to claim ownership of the "new" territory. The American Revolution, and there were many other revolutions taking place during this time. It was a time of long established cultures becoming virtually extinguished as technology and brutal wit moved nations in a new direction. Businesses and governments were shaken to the core back then. I'm speculating that the entities will be shaken to the core once again over the next 15 years. One other factor to consider is that Pluto and Saturn did form a mutual reception during Pluto's last transit through Capricorn. If you choose to do the research yourself, check out the historical events for the years 1777 - 1779.

Looking into the near future, the Saturn Pluto mutual reception during 2013 and 2014, will, most likely, bring upheaval in ways we can never imagine simply because technology is totally different today than it was. One more observation that I have is the fact that Pluto will still be in Capricorn when Saturn arrives there in 2018. Will they work as a team? The history behind this transit is a little more difficult to come by. I could be wrong here, but the last time I can find any records of Saturn and Pluto both transiting through Capricorn at the same time is 782 - 785 (AD).

Back to the present, and at this point in time, Saturn is currently in Virgo. We have one more year of Saturn in Virgo. Next, Saturn will start the transit Libra near the end of October, 2009. Partnerships (corporations) will need to be restructured, legal entities will be scrutinized, and financial institutions will need to clean up their squalor. Looking back, while Saturn transited Libra, 1980-1981, there was a period of global economic recession. Many businesses were reorganized and redefined. The first example I can think of comes from the automobile industry. There were several governmental bailouts of the American automobile industry during the early 1980s. Also, does anyone remember how many bank failures there were back then?

Saturn's transit through Scorpio has a tendency to force us to investigate the matters that we consider to be "taboo" or too hot to handle. For example, let's look back to the last time Saturn moved through Scorpio in 1983-1984. Geraldine Ferraro was the first female to run as vice president in the United States. Jesse Jackson was the first African-American presidential candidate. Sally Ride was the first woman astronaut in the US traveling into space. US prisons were crumbling under the huge influx of inmates. The whole world was struggling with a newly discovered illness called the "gay plague" which we now know more about but have yet to figure out how to cure; AIDS.

I can't help but feel like the trend of Pluto's move into Capricorn will continue to spur economic and governmental evaluations. As Saturn moves into Libra near the end of 2009, legal entities, corporations and financial institutions will be expected to clean up their mess while Pluto redefines the rules of the business game. Then the next real change will be seen while Saturn moves through Scorpio beginning in October 2012. There have already been scary predictions that December 2012 could be the "end of the world" based on the Mayan calendar ending that year as well as some other forecasts from other famous astrologers. Forecasts are merely "probabilities" and NEVER seem to turn out exactly as predicted.

So where does this knowledge leave us as we anticipate the shifts from the planetary transits that bring generational changes? Well, once again, there are no easy answers or prognostications that can fully prepare us for the future. We hopefully learn from history and find solutions that can help minimize the pain of transition. That is what astrology is all about. We can see the cycles and the patterns from the past which allow us to see the direction and focus that we need to take for the future. Whether we are smart enough to see this, and use this to our advantage is the whole other side of the astrology coin; free will vs. fate.

Okay -- so I was on a tirade a couple of weeks ago concerning rude people and internet thievery. I'm moving past that by writing new scripts that are more difficult to steal. If people want to use the javascript that I have written by plugging it into their websites and running it ON their websites, that's fine by me. However at this point, most of my unique scripts will be hidden behind the scenes and it will definitely involve way more work to get at the information beyond a click, copy and paste function. The Moon sign, lunar event and moon phase information is back up at my website's articles page www.lunarliving.org along with some new features. The Horoscope page will also show the current Sun Sign and Moon Sign at the moment the page was logged into. If you find that your cache is storing old information, you can update your cache by using your browser's refresh button or utilize your browser's reload page function.

So, why do so many people (on the Internet) decide to blatantly steal other people's material? For example, I work hard to write my javascripts. I offer up some of them as free for people to use and wish them well. Others, I specifically want to keep on my websites.

If people ask me up front if they can use a script, I usually will let them use it if they will tell visitors that the script came from my site. But to flat out hotlink right into my website without asking for permission? Yump'n Yimmeny - that is frustrating!

And even more frustrating is when I write the website owners to ask that they stop. Many of the offenders will get all P!ssy. There are some people who will apologize and ask for permission, but more often than not, the thieves get upset and defensive as if I am the one being unrealistic for asking that my materials be removed from their site. Fur Chryst Sakes - if you don't want to get caught, don't be so blatant about it. Steal the whole script, plug it into your site using your own bandwidth, et. al.

Or better yet, Learn to write your own Javascript - Put some of your own Blood, Sweat and Tears into writing your own script to discover your own sense of satisfaction and reward for creating something. On the other hand, if you want to save time, use the script but give proper credit where it is due. Don't be afraid to fess up and say "I found this script at xyz.com."

But to Blatantly go onto someone else's site to hot wire (hotlink) the script into your own site without proper credit or permission is like plugging an extension cord into your neighbor's electrical outlet and running the cord back to your house so that you don't have to pay for the electricity that you use.

The Next Level: Moon Astrology = Lunar Astrolicious

The Moon sign is that subtle second astrological layer that reveals the perfection of Astrology. It is the hidden facet to understanding the psyche, and provides a great story of how psychology truly became a mainstay within our society. Most people don't even realize that psychology is a fairly new science in comparison to Astrology.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, doctors (scientists) were becoming interested in understanding emotions, thought processes and behaviors. This was an area that had very little "scientific" research. Scientific research was coming into its own during this time. Concepts of research were being scrutinized and assessed for validity. The fear was that too many scam artists were using here say and myths to bamboozle or hustle unsuspecting individuals. The world of "science" was going to fix this problem (hahaha) and make the world a better place to live. The science community basically felt that Astrology had no "place" in this research world. That Astrology was a bunch of mumbo jumbo voo doo occult magic making ideas and that there simply could be no validity. Despite the history of Astrology, the analyticals were going to leave Astrology in the dusty past with scientific methods. Or so they thought.

There was the need for researchers to understand why people do the things that people do. Why do some people shriek when they see a spider while others could care less? Why do some people lie when the truth would not cause any harm? These types of mysteries needed some investigation. People who called themselves psychologists wanted to turn away from using Astrology to explain these behaviors. Interestingly enough, their research never quite did away with Astrology. As time passed, the concepts of Astrology have waxed and waned very much like the cycle of the Moon. With each new answer, more questions arose.

Psychological research did not leave Astrology in the dust. Instead, in many ways, psychology confirmed that each individual has his/her own unique traits and temperaments. Similar to the concepts of Astrology, we have learned that some of what people do is instinctive, some of it is survivalistic, and some if it is free choice or free will. Research basically confirmed that people seemingly fall into basic trait categories with "extra" characteristics on the side. What we may be discovering is that individuals are a combination of traits borne out of nature and nurture and that Astrology may not have been all that far away from contributing to each unique trait, temperament and instinct.

So where does the Moon fit in to Astrology. Where solar astrology (sun signs) "fails" is where lunar astrology picks up. There are only 12 solar signs (or zodiac signs). How can all of humanity fall into these 12 categories? The fact is that they can not. When we consider the number of Sun sign and Moon sign combinations, we discover that there are 144 categories. Is that enough? Well, it's better than 12 categories. It is better because it helps define a person's basic outlook and his/her emotions. Western-based Astrology can also add more layers (characteristics) by incorporating the Ascendant or Rising sign. Based on the time of day that a person is born, it is possible to have one of 12 zodiacal signs on the "horizon" or the Ascendant that helps define the person's personality or persona.

Oh my goodness, now this really is getting complicated. When factoring in the Sun Sign and Moon Sign along with the Rising Sign, there is the possibility of 1728 categories. There are too many levels and the complexity is difficult to break out into isolated characteristics. When it comes to scientific research, it is hard enough to get a quality representation of population to do the research for 144 distinct categories, let alone almost 2000 categories. Well, any good psychologist is going to throw up his/her hands at this point and say "This is out of control!" Yet, to the astrologist, this is just the beginning! After the Sun, Moon and Rising, other facets to be looked at are communication style and relationship style. Yes, there are more layers to think about. These are what seemingly leaves psychological research in the cold. We are not a mere 6, 8 or 12 basic characteristics. Humans are way more complex than that. And Psychology has a long ways to go before catching up with Astrology.

To move on past the Moon sign and Rising sign, basic astrology uses at least five planets to help describe a person's "make up." The planets that can be factored in are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Yes, there are more planets, but those are considered "generational" because they move so slowly around the solar system.

When a person is born, the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant can be in any of the 12 zodiac signs giving us the possibility of over 1700 combinations. However, that is not the case for the planets of Mercury and Venus. Mercury is never more than one sign away from the Sun's transit and Venus is never more than two signs away. So we can't do the standard 12 * 12 type of math to compute the number of variations possible. And this is where my math skills fail me. I can't even begin to comprehend whether to multiply or add or what? Regardless, it becomes obvious that psychology can not even begin to really touch all the facets of a person's personality in the same way that Astrology can. And, as any individual who has any understanding of Astrology knows; the more planets, the more layers.

Astrology may not be the perfect resource for helping to explain all human behaviors, attitudes and thought processes, but it stretches well beyond the single layer (Solar Signs) that gets routinely criticized by the "Scientific Community." Even if we only add in the Moon's placement within the individual's chart, we begin to see the complexity and the possibilities that are lost on Solar Astrology. Hence, Moon Astrology plays a significant role in Astrology (and possibly in psychology) in explaining human nature and "where" it comes from.

Horoscopes or Horrorscopes?

Sometimes I get asked questions about my monthly horoscopes. Since the majority of my website focuses on the Moon, people want to know if the horoscopes are written for the Moon sign or the Sun sign. Nutshell answer: Sun signs.

I write the scopes with the Sun sign in mind since most people know for sure what their Sun sign is. Only about five percent of the population actually knows their Moon sign. The scopes can also be used for an individual's Rising (Ascendant) sign for the sectors and zones that I bring attention to in the forecasts.

However, not all portions of my forecasts can be quickly converted for the Rising sign. The intervals of the month when I describe the dates that a person is more likely to feel flustered are designed specifically for the Sun sign. These "fluster" dates are the periods within the month when the transiting Moon is in a difficult aspect to that particular sign.

Some people ask why I don't give the "lucky days" of the month for the signs. I guess I don't do that because virtually any day can be a lucky day! Why single them out? I point out the frustrating days simply because they give a person a heads up before heading into that day that it could be a frustrating day. It does not mean that those dates will definitely be "bad," but if they are difficult, at least you will know ahead of time that the Moon is simply not going to help you cope with the frustrations of the day. We can usually deal with almost any challenge that comes our way UNLESS our emotions are on edge. And the Moon forming a difficult aspect to our sign can be a good indicator that we will be emotionally challenged on that day. So that's why I list those days for each sign.

I also list the dates of the New Moon and Full Moon with the probable themes. These Moon days can be used both for the Sun sign and the Rising sign forecasts. These themes give you a good sense of the issues that you are likely to need to focus on for the day leading into the Moon event and possibly the day after the event.

Since the Lunar Eclipse on August 16, 2008, there was a wash of emotions that came flooding out and they have now been purged. I have been able to let go of that which I can not change, and am moving forward with things that I can. I am reactivating this Lunar Living Blog as an added resource to the site. I formed the blog over 5 years ago, but I let it set dormant as I moved through a variety of other facets in my life. Thankfully, lunarliving.org has been my refuge for a long time now, and I have always enjoyed writing the articles and astrological resources that I have posted on the site. Calendars, daily activities, moon match relationship, scopes, more calendars along with the bi-monthly major moon events. It's all there and I'm always open for suggestions on ways to improve the material.

Mega Earthquakes and Astrology

Fitting my research into the time that I have on hand, has been difficult this week, but here is what I have found....

Looking at 11 charts of the recent largest killer earthquakes measured at 8.5 and above in the past 100 years, there is a theme of Hidek and Exdek planets along with a trend with the Chart's Planetary Ruler in distress.

A quick explain of Hidek and Exdek - The Sun sets a standard path during its transit. The Sun transits to North and South declinations of 23.27 degrees during the Solstice dates (June 22 and December 22) and crosses the equator on this path North and South near the the Equinox dates (March 21 and September 21). The Sun can be Hidek and always is (Hidek) near the dates of June 22 and December 22. Hidek essentially means High Declination when a planet is in the 21 to 23.27 degrees of declination. Fact of the matter is, the Sun can never go Exdek (Exceed Declination) because it sets the standard with its Declination Path. Other planets can exceed the Sun's declination (anything beyond 23.27 degrees declination) at which time it is called Exdek or the more traditional term, Out of Bounds. Note of caution, do not confuse declination degrees with the standard longitude degrees of the daily transits. They are two different computations and should not be used in the same way. My findings when isolating the top megaforce earthquake charts are as follows:

1) In all 11 charts - the chart ruler was either in a tight tension aspect, in a critical degree, Exdek or Hidek. I included bi-quintiles and quincunx aspects as tension aspects using an orb of 2.5 degrees.

2) In 10 of the 11 charts, there was at least one planet (usually more) Exdek or Hidek (close to being Out of Bounds).

3) I noted a theme with Essential Dignities - in 9 of the 11 charts, there was either one planet in it's rulership (using the classical rulerships) or Mutual Reception (also using classical Mutual Receptions). In 5 of the charts, it involved Jupiter and in 6 of the charts, it involved Mars (with two of those charts involving both). In all the Mutual Receptions, Jupiter was involved....

4) In 9 of the charts, there was a "Cusper" - I allowed an orb of 2 from the cusp. One of these involved only the Nodes.

I did not check transits of asteroids except Chiron's transit.

I did not see any themes of Transit Aspects involving specific planets within these chart. But it did appear that Uranus and Mars were involved in many of the tense aspects. I did include Quincunx and Quintiles in the aspect list - Seven of the charts had at least 2 quincunx (inconjuncts) plus at least 2 quintile or bi-quintile aspects. Three of the charts had 2 or more Bi-Quintiles with 1 or no Quincunx. The one chart that did not have these aspect trends had a tight square between Uranus and a stellium of Jupiter, Venus and the Sun with a quintile to the Moon (From Uranus, with love).

The Charts that I created were using the facts presented at the http://earthquakes.usgs.gov/ website. I decided to isolate my research to the largest magnitude earthquakes rather than the number of individuals impacted or injured. I hope that, at some point, this information is helpful to others who choose to do additional research on the transits of Earthquakes.

With the Force of a Tsunami

The force of earth and water combined can be powerful and deadly. The powerful 9.0 Earthquake and Tsunami impacting several Asian countries since December 26, 2004 shall be remembered for the lethal intensity that nature can parse out. From an astrological perspective, the cosmic influences were building.

The simultaneous ingress of the Nodes and Mars with the Moon's quick "trigger" seemed to initiate the event. The Mars ingress into Sagittarius in connection to the Square that Mars began forming to Uranus in Pisces, and along with the transition of the North and South Nodes into new signs may have been early warnings of this massive destruction. However, knowing how to foretell with certainty when an earthquake is going to happen has yet to be discovered. Astrology can give us indicators of the likelihood, but to go around on a monthly basis stating that a catastrophe is likely to happen is a bit more than people can handle.

Uranus has been in a sensitive location in the sign of Pisces over the past few weeks -- in direct motion over the point it had been in Retrograde during the last Solar Eclipse. Uranus is a "sudden and shocking" events type of planet to begin with. Uranus likes the thrill of sirens and emergency vehicles, doing what he does best to be in the action. Pisces energies are in the water element, influencing the mood and the power of the intangible. Pisces is sometimes known as the bridge between the heavens and the earth. The Square by Mars was just taking shape as Mars ingressed into the energies of Sagittarius on December 26. The lessons of Sagittarius move with the swiftness of the arrow, piercing into the realm of the unforgettable. Mars is comfortable with the concept of death and despair. Mars is often times associated with annihilation as well as courage, well beyond the War God tendencies of violence.
